GADGET was invited by the Austrian National Agency Lifelong Learning (OeAD) to the conference “EUROPE 2020 – NEW SKILLS for NEW JOBS” in Vienna on 23th September 2014. Our Austrian representatives, Lisa Mahajan and Rene Wenzel from FH JOANNEUM, attended the conference and promoted the project to an approximate 250 participants in “Haus der Industrie” in Vienna.
After an inspiring keynote by the Head of Representation of the European Commission in Austria, Dr. Johann Sollgruber, and a panel discussion with representatives from industry, federal ministries and social partners, GADGET was presented to the visitors in the form of project stands during the first afternoon session. This form of presentation allowed for an active discussion and enabled Mrs. Mahajan and Mr. Wenzel to network with representatives of industry and education and to present the results of GADGET to participating stakeholders.
The term “New Skills” refers to employment skills that are requested in future. The goal of the conference was to connect the world of education with the professional world. GADGET was selected as a good practice in the field of industry-education cooperation among 850 European and national projects that are supervised by the OeAD.
The official part of the conference was concluded with two panel discussions with representatives from industry. In these two sessions the importance of “new” skills, but also “old” skills for the industry and the need for stronger ties between the worlds of education and industry was highlighted again. The event closed with informal networking session.
